Kelly and Gordon, Mongonui. The machine was made by Messrs. A. and G. Price, of Onehunga, and is the lOSlh that has been manufactured by that firm. —Daily Southern Cross, July 7. This Blight Birds. —The Southern Cross, 7th July, says: —The pretty little birds known as the blight birds seem to be fust increasing in and around Auckland, and wo welcome the little strangers back to this province with much pleasure. Not only are they to be seen and heard in the .suburbs early and late, carolling forth their bell-like notes, but flights of them may be seen almost daily, hovering over the city itself. "Fined a Bob." —A contemporary in Grcyinouth says that the word " bob ' appears to bo received in our courts as quite a legitimate word, and its value and meaning perfectly well understood by the law ollicers. In the Resident Magistrate's Court, a witness on being asked what was the amount of damage done to a certain race belonging to him which had been injured by some cattle, replied, "ten bob would cover it," and the expression was received as being quite right and proper. Probably a "tizzy," a "joey," a "halfbull," and tho like alterations in the nomenclature of our metal currency will come into general use, and we should not be sur prised if, in the course of time, our magistrates, in sentencing an offender* may say —" Prisoner (or defendant, as the case may be), you are fined half a yellow-boy, with three bobs and a tizzy costs, or 48 (hours in tho corn-bin. It you come before 'me again, you will be mulcted in a flimsy."
