Arrival of the Sburfc. The Colonial Government gun-boat Stnrt, Capt. Fairchild, left Auckland at 6 p.m. on the 23rd ult.. and arrived here at 9.30 p.m. on tlio 27th, having called in at Tauranga, Matatn, Opotiki, and Poverty Bay, on the passage down. 11. M.S.S. Virago was at Tauranga, when the Sturt left. Arrival of the Muriwai. The schooner Muriwai, W. Jones, master, arrived in port at 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday last, bringing a cargo of bacon, sheepskins, fruit, &c, from Wairoa. The following is her report: —L-ft Poverty Bay at 9 a.m. on the 13th June, with N.VV. wind. At 8 p.m. the same day experienced a southerly sale, and, when four miles to the northward of Table Cape, hove-to under close-reeled toresail. At 6 a.m. on the 14>th bore up for Turanganui, where arrived at 9 a.m. Left again at 4 p.m. with li-rhf westerly wind and southerly swell. Passed Table Cape at 10 p.m. ; and at midnight wind suddenly shifted to the southward, with heavy squatls of; rain. Bore up for Wangawehi for shelter. Dropped anchor there at 3 a.m. on the 15th. The wind continued to blow with great violence until 4 p.m. on the 16th, when the weather begin to moderate, though the wind continued from the southward until 6 p m on the' 17th, when a lighl westerly breeze sprung up, aid the schooner got under weigh to proceed to Wairoa. At 10 p.m. beat through the passage. At 1 a.m. on the 18th, I wind freshened to a gale, close-reefed and stood up the Bay. At 7 p.m. wind died away, shook out the reefs. At 8 p.m. was off Wakaki, and at midnight anchored off the Wairoa river. Saw the s.s. St. Kilda at anchor there. On the 19ih, transhipped cargo from the St. Kilda, that vessel not being able to land it in boats. At 2 p.m. the schooner Hero and cutter Grayling, from Napier, arrived off the river, but there was no wind to cross the bar. At 4 p.m., wind freshened from the S.W AH three vessals (the St. Kilda had left for Napier previously,) siood out to sea. At S p.m., the wind suddenly veered to S.E. with rain—weather very thick. At 10 p.m. hove-to for the night. At 8 a.m. on the 20th, wore ship, and stood to the eastward. At. 11 a.m., saw the schooner Hero standing out under close-reefed mainsail and staysail. Set close reefed mainsail and jib, and arrived at Kinikini at 8 p.m.; wind still from the southward, 1 .with heavy squalls of rain. June 21—Wind still fresh fiom the S. with rain At noon the breeze moderated. At 8 p.m. wind still from the southward ; the sea gone down, and weather clearing up. juue 22 At 2 a.m. wind suddenly shifted to the the S.W. Got under weigh, and beat up to Long [Point, anchoring there at 8 a.m. At 4 p.m. the 'wind died away, at 8 p.m., calm, and the weather I clear. June 23—At daylight, calm and finp, at 4 !p.m., light airs from S.W.; got under weigh to [proceed to Wairoa. At 6 p.m. wind shifted to |N.W.; fine clear weather. Arrived at Wairoa at 6 a.m. on the 24th. Left again at 8 a.m. on 29th (Tuesday last): had light W. and S.W. winds down the Coast, and arrived here the same night, as above stated. We believe the Muriwai will leave again for Wairoa about Saturday next. Miscellaneous. The steamers St Kilda and Wellington botli arrived in port this morning from Wellington, which port the former left late on Tuesday night, and the latter at 3.15 p.m. yesterday. The Wellington will steam for Auckland this evening.
The s.s. Wellington will steam for Auckland at 2.30 p.m. to-day. A Sympathizing Friend.—The ,Evening Post (Wellington) is our authority for the following :—" It is said that liewi, on behalf of the Ngajtimaniapoto tribe, has addressed a 'letter to his Honor Donald M'Lean, sympathizing with him on account of his dismissal by the Government." Alarming Telegrams.—As some anxiety may exist through the tele igraphie statement that Mr Fox said alarming telegrams received on Sll Ilea o day had rendered immediate attention necessary, and as no such telegrams were known of in Napier, we ha\e authority to say that Mr Fox has since recalled his expression—no telegrams et an alarming nature hav |iag b.aen received.
