THE MOHAKA RAID.

The following translation of a native letter on this subject, addressed to the Waka Maori, will interest our readers : Napier, May 17,1869. To the Editor of To Waka Maori Friend, —We have seen (that is, heard of) a statement which appeared in a Pakeha newspaper which reached the Wairoa to the effect that the preservation of the pa "Jerusalem" at Mohaka was owing to Q-eorge Worgan. That statement is a false statement. The pa in question is ours. Our women and children lived in it. It was not from any urging on the part of G-eorge Worgan that we entered. That European, George Worgan, ran away —he and the Wairoa natives. But the Paymaster Captain (Withers) was in rear following the main body which had bolted. The 20 who entered the pa were of Ngatipahauwera tribe. A gain, the said Pakeha (Worgan) was not present, as ho savs he was, at the death of the seven Hauhaus at Waikaremoana—that is to say, at To Kiwi. Ndt so. It was us —Ngatipahauwera, Ngati mihi, Ngatiwikatea, and Ngatipuku. That is all. From Toha.
