The New Zealand Steam Navigation Company's tine screw steamer Ahuriri, Captain Flowerday, from Wellington and Southern I'orts, arrived in the roadstead at IS o'clock on Tuesday night, and took up a berth outside the brig Maggie, at the' entrance of the Iron Pot, early next morning, in I order to coal. She left Dunedin at 2 p.m. oii the, 26th May, and arrived at Akaroa on the 27th at! ( J a.m.; left Akaroa at 11 a.m the same day, ar-j riving at Lyltelton at 4 p.m.; left Lytteltou at G p.m. on the 28th, and arrived at Kaikora on the' 29th at 4 a.m.; left again at 7 a.m., and arrived; at Wellington at 4 o'clock the same afternoon ; left Wellington at ] 1 p.m. on the 31st, and ar-1 rived here as above, I
I After coaling from the Maggie, the Aliuriri went alongside the Government wharf to discharge cargo. As will be seen by advertisement, the Aliuriri will steam for Aucklnnd this day at 1 p.m. Arrival of the cutter Mania. —Heavy weather on the Coast. The cutter Mania, D. Hamilton, master —regarding the safety of which vessel some degree of uneasiness was beginning to be felt—returned to port last- evening l . She left Napier for Waimararama on the 17th May. and has been ats"a nearly the whole of the time since that day. The weather she has experienced has been very rough indeed ; and during the prevalence of the heavy N.E. gale and high sea which sprung up on the 21st ult.. the lit'le vessel was hove-to for 89 hours. Latterly, dirty southerly weather, with mnch rain, has been encountered. Even when there was little or no wind, great difficulty and danger was experienced in landing on (he coast, owing; to the heavy swell. Since Monday, up to yesterday, was at anchor off Cape Kidnappers, when, a northeast breeze having" set in, made sail for this port, bringing up in the roadstead at 6 o'clock last evening. Cargo : 31 bales wool, 8 bundles sheepskins.
Miscellaneous. The s.s. Lord Ashley, hence at 11 a.m. on Sunday last, arrived at Wellington at 2 p.m. next day." She may be expected to return to Napier tomorrow' (Friday), and will steam foi Auckland the same day. The ketch Courier, for Lyttelton in ballast, took her departure yesterday. The brig Maggie is announced to leave for Sydney direct on Saturday next. The p.s. Start steamed for Wairoa on Tuesday morning last. Col. Whitmore proceeded in her.
