COMMUNICATION WITH PORANGAHAU.
TO THE EDITOR OE THE HAWKS'S BAY TIMES. Sir,—ln your issue of the 10th inst. a person signing himself "Hard Times" wishes J;o know why Cobb and Co. are not at prosent running a coach to Porangahau, and if they continue to receive a subsidy for the same. With your permission [ will furnish bim with the necessary information. Cobb and Co. in this Province are at present receiving a subsidy of about £2OO per annum for a weekly mail service iroia Napier to Porauguhau and ail inter-
mediate places; and if "Hard Tim>s" ■will do it for less they are agreeable to give it up to him. Previous to the last heavy floods between Wallingford and Porangahau, the mails were carried through to the latter place. Since then, in consequence of several of the bridges having been washed awar, it lias stopped at Wallingford, and from there the mails have been forwarded to Poran<»ahnu on horseback. When "H= rd Times " s?.ys that the road to Porangahau is he is telling a palpable falsehood. The road between Wallingford and Porangahau never was good. In fact, a worse piece of roid scarecly exists between Napier and Wellington ; and it is in a far worse state now than when the coaches first started running. 1 am, &c, A. Peteks. Napier, May 11, 1869.
