The news from the Thames continues of a highly satisfactory character, and business generally seems pretty brisk. Great preparations are being made at Auckland for the reception of the Duke of Edinburgh. The usual half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New Zealand was held at Auckland on the 28th April. The dividend was the usual one of 10 per cent, with a bonus added, which makes the dividend equal to 15 per cent. The <s Inimitable " Thatcher, accompanied by Mrs Thatcher (Madame Vitelli), arrived at Auckland on the 28th April by the s.s. Airedale, Capt. Kennedy, from Wellington, where they had been performing to crowded houses. The chiefs Tamihana te Rauparaha and Hohepa Tamahengia arrived here from Wellington by the s.s. Airedale yesterday. Their mission is a somewhat important one, as they intend, if possible, to visit tho King in order to endeavour to establish the basis of a permanent peace between the Europeans and natives,—Southern Cross, April 2&
