Movements of Colonel Whitmore.—The following notice was on Saturday last posted up on the Post Office :—" Copy of a Telegram to H. K. Russell, Napier, April 17, 1869. —' Whitmoi-e is moving hit* force to Auckland to go on to Maketu, from thence to Taupo. He will have heard of the attack on Mohaka yesterday, and probably a part of the Constabulary will go on to Napier. He himself left for Taurangaon the 14th. inst."
Sixteen Recruits for the Armed Constabulary arrived by the Ahuriri yesterday, and were at once marched to the Petane ramp under SergeantMajor Pox. They appear to be the right sort of men.
A Man-of-War for the East Coast.—lntimation has, we believe, been receh ed from Mr Stafford, that it is the intention of the Government to despatch H.M.S.S. Challenger to this Coast. She would most likely leave Wellington for Napier this morning.
