A great fire has occurred on the East India Kailway. The loss is estimated at two lacs of rupees. A severe shock of earthquake has been experienced at Assam. Many buildings.were damaged. Sir Malcolm M'Leod is shortly ex pected to arrive. The Viceroy has made terms of alliance with Ameer Ali Khan. Numerous deputations of merchants have presented addresses of welcome to Lord Mayo. He replied suitably, inviting them to a personal conference on mercantile questions. The report of the state of the crops in Bengal is most promising. Rice was quoted at 4rs. 2an.; coals, 14rs.; copper was weak at 31rs. 4an.; castor oil, lOrs. 12an. Exchange—Bank bills at 6 months', 2/iThe Manfred is loading for Mel bourne with 700 tons rice. * The freight market is depressed. A t Bombay it is rumored that an expeditionary foice is likely to be sent from India to New Zealand. Cholera has broken out at Hyderabad and Snd Secunderabad. The native who falsely reported Dr Livingstone's death has been sentenced to imprisonment for eight months, and then to be banished from the country.
