WAIKATO.

PROPOSED LARGE NATIVE MEETING AT TOKANGAMUTU. (Daily Southern Cross Correspondent.) Alexandra, March 9. The excitement caused by Messrs Br.cklandand Walker's information, and the report of Reihana's proposed attack on this place has gradually subsided. The news received lately from Tokangamutu has caused no fresh alarm. The natives are now mustering there in large numbers to hold their meeting—upwards of 200 from Kawhia having arrived there last week, fully armed and accoutred. The Taranaki natives, with their two great prophets, Tohu and Te Whitu, arrived there on Sunday last; so I suppose we shall soon know what will be the result of their deliberations. I heat from good authority that Tawhiao and party are far from being assured that the result will be in favor of peace. Te Kaokao, Wetere, Reihana, and Tapihana, are all to be present, and no doubt these fellows will try all their influence to raise a war in this district. The respective of the piophets, Messrs Tohu and Te Whitu, will have great influence. Whether their voices will be raised for pacific measures or otherwise re mains to be seen. These men have long been expected at Tokangamutu They w r ere invited to the great meeting last year, but for some reason or other did not put in an appearance.
