The Marlbokough Diggings.—The Airedale brings no news of importvnee from these diggings; she reports that the weather had been very bad. The Raugatira on her last trip brought 150 diggers to Nelson. —Wellington Independent, 9th March. Resignation.-—The Speaker of the House of Representatives has reported ta the Government, that he has received the. resignaton of Mr George Graham of Auckland. —Wellington Independent, 9th March. Colonel Whitmoee. —Col. Whitmore has again arrived at the Front, and trust that we shall soon be able to announce that active operations against the rebels are being pushed on with such energy as the case demands. —Wellington Independent, 9th March. Maoei Geatitude.—The leader of the Maoris who committed tne murders at the White Cliffs is named Te Waitere. This man, when an infant, was baptised by the Rev. Mr Whiteley, who also stood godfather to him. He was called after Mr Whiteley, the name translated into Maori beiug Waitere. Death of Genebal Gold.—This officer, so long known here as Colonel of the 65th Regiment, and who afterwards commanded the troops at Taranaki, is not the General Gold who died recently on the Continent, but his brother.—Wellington Independent, 4th March. WONOEEFTTL ESCAPE OB ThIBTT Children.—The Spanish journals mention an alarming accident in an infant school at Fuonte do Contos in Estramadura. The roof suddenly fell in, burying about thirty children in the ruins; fortunately they were ranged along the wall at the momenr, and although several received serious contusions no Ufa was lest.
