The Late Major Yon Tempskt.—A paragraph appeared in the Brisbane Courier a short ago to the effect that the Executive of New Zealand had granted a “ solatium of £2O” to the wid>w of this gallant officer. This is a complete misconception of the actual facts, as the k following communication from the hon.Mr Stafford will show:—Wellington, N.Z., 12th January, 18li9. Sir,~ I am directed by Mr Stafford, with reference to a paragraph which appeared in the Brisbane Courier on the 12th October last, to state that the writer thereof must have been entirely misinformed of the painful case to which he alludes. Tnese were, in fact, that on the death of the late Major You Tempsky, his widow became entitled to a pension of £IBO per annum, to which the Government added a donation of £2OO, authorising, at the same time an immediate advance of £2O, on ao« count of pension, to Mrs Von Tempsky, in order to obviate any embarrassment which mignt have occurred to her until her pension should become payable in the ordinary course. I am, &c., (signed) Edwabo WaKEFIBIP,”
