A Public Meeting to " take 5 consideration the Education ]u| was held at Waipawa on TluJ evening lasb. The meeting was« attended, though it had been org ally fixed for an earlier date, anß though another meeting, with! same object, was held at Ka« on the same evening. Several speakers addressed metti ng, and dissatisfaction was pressed at the manner in which Government had acted towards country schools, as well as the pensive means they had adopted collect the rate. The following resolutions j passed—the two first unanimom and the third with but one diss uent: — I.—Proposed by Mr S. Wins and seconded by Mr T. Cowper That the present rate is unfair in its opera: and presses more heavily on the poor of the] vinee than on land owners. 2.—Proposed by Mr J. Haedi and seconded by Mr M". Gregory That we resist the rate till the Trustees haft right to appoint the teacher, and regulate thei of school ices. 3.—Proposed by Mr T. Thoi son, and seconded by Mr J. Smith : That this meeting views with indignation action taken by the Provincial Council inirapa a rate contrary to the views of the electors of Province.
