Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1869.

We are compelled to hold over our leading article and other matter of interest already in type.

A Sale of two impounded bullocks will take place at the Meanee Sale Yards on Tuesday (to-morow), 2nd February, at noon.

The s.s. Wellington, from Auckland, has just arrived as we go to press. She will steam southward* this day.

An Agricultural Census of the Colony will—in accordance with an act of the General Assembly—be taken during the present month.

Import of Live Stock.—The import of live stock at the Port of Napier for the month of January, 1869, has been as follows :—202 sheep, and 3 horses.

Export of Live Stock. —The expore of live stock from the Port of Napier for the month of January, 1869, has been as follows:—2,-581 sheep, 1 horse, and 1 bull. A Hauhau Prisoner was brought to Napier by the s.P. St. Kilda on Thursday last. He is supposed to be one of the party who attacked the escort at Patutahi. Thm English Mail via Panama arrived at Wellington on Wednesday last, by the E-uahine. The Suez mail has also arrived at the Bluff. The s.s. Star of the South.— We direct attention to the fact that this favorite steamer will lea e for Auckland this evening at 9 o'clock.

Auckland.—We have to thank Oapt. Bendall for the prompt delivery of our Auckland files. We do not observe any news of general importance.

Shipping.—Puring the month of January, 1869, there hme been, at the Port of Napier, 2.8 arrivals, aggregate tonnage, 5,019; and 31 departures, aggregate tonnage, 4,839. Spouting.—We learn that ac low water on Saturday, 13th February, which will be about 2 p.m., a match will be run on the Beach between Mr Baldwin's 'Fenian,' and Mr Maney's ' Comet,' for £2O a-side, — each horse to carry list. ; distance, one mile. The ' Fenian,' we hear, occupies the enviable position of " favorite."

The Weather.— On Thursday last the dry weather we have had for some time gave place to heavy rain, which continued throughout the following day. The rainfall will be productive of great good in many parts of the Province, but we hear that at Meanee the flats are partly flooded, and that a large quantity of posts belonging to Mr Maney have been carried away. There was rather a high tide at the Spit on Friday morning. Auckland Sheep Market.—We extract the following from Messrs Carey and Gilles' report for the week ending 22nd January:—"Fat cheep from Wanganui, brought from 14s 6d to 16s 6d; Napier sheep, heavy weights, 17s. The market was fully supplied, and prices were not so good as last week. Fat lambs were quitted from 10s to 10s 6d each. Store sheep—Our sales have been 350 half-bred hoggets at lis."

Export of Wool, Hides, &c.— We notice the following during the past month, for transshipment to England :—-Wool, 34-9 bales; sheepskins, 1 bale; hides, 200. This does not include shipments of wool made on the coast, and taken on to Wellington—doubtless some 200 bales more. The ship Tda Zeigler and barque Excelsior are fast tilling up, and will, we learn, take away, for London direct, about 5,000 bales of wool, besides hides, sheepskins, tallow, <fcc. We hear, also, that there is a large quantity of wool still to come come down from the interior.
