Narrow Escape from Drowning. ■ —We are informed that on Tuesday last a child named Robert Jiobb, son of one of the Poverty Bay refugees, fell into the water near the Steam Mill at high tide, and was nearly drowned. Mr WagstafT, who way passing shortly after the accident occurred, saw the child floating in the water, and rescued it in a state of insensibility. The boy had been in company with a little sister, who was too frightened to give the alarm. Large Shark. —A large shark entered the inner harbor early on Saturday morning, and various attempts were made to effect his capture. About noon Mr Svmes succeeded in shooting the monster, and towed him ashore, where a large number of persons assembled to examine him. He proved to be a large specimen of the thrasher, or foxtshark, and measured 12 feet 4 inches in length, and 3 feet 6 inches in girth below the ventral fins. The upper lobe of the tail was over six feet in length, and the measurement across the 'ventral fins was 4 feet. He was quickly cut up and taken away, the severed*parts of his body retaining their vitality for a considerable time. This is the second large shark Mr Symes has caught in the harbor this week— the first being a blue shark, 7 feet in length. We have heard, also, that black fish lately entered the JSTgaruroro riv*er, where it was taken by some natives. *
