Rifle Shooting-.—A match between the Volunteers of Wellington and Nelson has concluded in favor of the latter, the scores being 387 to 342. The rui:ges shot over were 200, 400, and 530 yards.

Agricultural Census.—We find the following in the New Zealand Herald: An agricultural census of the Colony is to be taken in February, in accordance with an Act of the General Assembly. The following are the particulars that will he required : —Extent of laud broken up, but not in crop; number of acres in wheat, oats, and barley, with the gross produce in bushels; quantity of acres of hay and potatoes, with the gross produce in tons, and land under crops, and in permanent artificial grass, including land under hay. The returns wilt be classified under the head of each electoral district, and, if accurately filled up, will give a good deal of valuable information. Of course the totals of eaeh electoral district only will be given, and not those of any particular holding, or even parish. Each occupier of more than one acre of land will be invited to fill up a form, and sign it, so as to ensure complete accuracy. The returns of this character are found in other countries to be very valuable. The United States Government publishes the fullest statistics regularly of this character. They are found to be capital advertising mediums, ehowing the psosperity and advancement of the country, and how excellent a field it is there« foro for the emigrant. In Ireland a very complete return connected with agriculture is obtained through the agency of the police. The accuracy of the return will depend upon occupiers, and as the returns will be afterwards published, giving a basis of comparison between one electoral district and another, and form a basis o.f comparison in future years, it is desirable that as striot accuracy as possible should be secured,
