The Late Oapt. Beown". —The Evening Post has been supplied with the following particulars respecting this officer, a kindly gallant gentleman. Ho fell af Ngatapa : —Captain Michael Brown was formerly a Sub-Ins; octor in the Irish Constabulary, and came to New Zealand to settle in 1863. He received a commission in the 4th Waikato regiment, and did good service in the Waikato campaign. More recently he served on the West Coast, having received a commission as Sub-Inspector in the Armed Constabulary, and from Pat'ea was sent to Auckland’to recruit. From Auckland he went to Waikato and married a voung lady x to wiiom he had previously been engaged. On the next day after marriage he left for Wanganui with his recruits. On arriving there he joined the expeditionary force under Col. Whitmore, which proceeded to tho East Coast, and served through the recent campaign. In the trenches before Ngatapa he lifted his head, for some purpose or other, over the parapet, and was instantly shot through the neck, the bullet, strange to say, passing through the ribbon which supported his wife’s minature. In all places where he served he gained the confidence of his men ; and, as a brace and official officer, a warm-hearted friend and pleasant genial companion, his loss was universally regretted.
