SYDNEY.

We take the following from the Sydney Morning Herald, 14th January,— The import markets were more active to-day, and a modearate business was done in articles of general consumption, except breadstuff's, for which there is at present no demand. Sales of Mariau’s ale at £7 10s, Kartell's brandy at 7s 6d, and rum at 4s are reported. Holders of sugars are advancing their prices, and retailers are allowing stocks to become reduced in expectation of lower prices ruling. ADELAIDE. The following telegrams appear iu the Sydney Morning Herald: — January 11.—The corn market is very Arm—there have been large inquries for wheat at 4s 2d, the supply is not equal to the demand. Flour is in good demand, sales have taken place at £lO 10s; shipments are being made to Algoa Bay and Auckland, as well as Sydney and England. January 12,—The corn market is Arm. Sales of wheat have been effected at 4s 2d.

Jauuary 13.—The com market is very firm; there is no ehange in the price of wheat. More inquiries for flour.

MELBOURNE.

The following' telegrams appear in the Sydney Moruining Herald: —

January ] I.—Business is unusually quiet. Maize has risen to 4s S<l; barley is scarce. January 12.—Flour: 150 tons sold at £l2. January 13.—Oats are firmer, and prices a.ie advancing, Tasmanian are quoted at 4s 3d. A cargo of Mauritius sugars was sold today at 10s per ton lower; the cargo of Java was withdrawn, Messrs D.ilmahoy Campbell and Co, report a large supply of fat cattle, and prices 30s per head lower; GOlb wethers are worth lis.
