ARRIVAL OF THE LORD ASHLEV. The Panama Company’s steamship Lord Ashley, Captain Worsp, left Port Chalmers at 6 pm. on Monday, 2nd November, and arrived at Lvttelton on the following day at 2.30 p.m. Left the same day at 7 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 1.15 p.m. on the Ith. Left Wellington at 3.15 pan. on the 9th, aud arrived here at 4 p m. on Tuesday last, the 10th, with the English Mail via Suez. We have to acknowledge the courtesy of the purser in furnishing us with late Southern files. The Lord Ashley steamed northwards yesterday at noon. She may be expected to return to this port on Tuesday next, 17th instant, and will steam southwards on the following day. ARRIVAL OF THE TAWERA. The schooner Tawera, Captain Kennedy, brought up in the roadstead at 5 p.m. yesterday, with the ensign flying half-mast. There was much speculation on shore as to the cause of this, but the public were Dot long kept iu ignorance. The Tawera was from Poverty Bay, and the news she brought was heartrending in the extreme. Full particulars will bo found elsewhere. The Tawera brought dow n 20 passengers, mostly women and children, driven from their homes by a bloodthirsty foe. MISCELLANEOUS. The schooner Hero, Campbell, master, with 50 bushels maize, 20 hides, arrived in port on Monday afternoon last, having left Wairoa the same morning. The Maori cutter Maid arrived in port yesterday, with a quantity of kumcras, hams, &c., from Wangawehi. The schooner Donald M’Lean, C. Baker, master, sailed for Poverty Bay on Tuesdav last, with sundries. She will load caltlo at Poverty Bay for the Auckland market. The brigantine Hannah Newton, Captain Willing, is on the berth for Auckland, and will probably gel away to-morrow with about 3CO sheep and sundry other cargo. The s.s. Star of the South, Captain Bendall, may be expected to return from Auckland on Monday next, 16th November.
