Cape Farewell Spit.—The Nelson Examiner, August 23, says:—\Te learn from a reply given by Mr Hail to an inquiry made by Mr Collins, in the House of Heprescntatives last week, that the lighthouse on Farewell Spit will be erected in about seven mouths.

The Society Islands.—By the arrival of the schooner Kate Grant, after a long cruise amongst the islands, we learn that a very valuable discovery of gold has been made at Kapa, one of the Society Islands. A large number of Europeans are already on the diggings, and it is said are doing well.
