Ploughing MaxcHi.—At a meeting held at Meanee on Thursday last, it was decided that a ploughing match is to be held on Mr Hcslop’s farm at Puketapu on Thursday, 21st inst. We understand Mr Tuxford 'suers a plough, and the Agricultural Society a prize of £5. Koeeible Ceueltt. — A man named James Mytten was charged at the Kesideut Magistrate’s Court on Friday, with having on the previous day caused the death of a eat belonging to Mr Bowcrn, of the Commercial Hotel, by throwing it into a copper of boiling water. He received the highest penalty allowed by the Act—a fine of £2, or, in default, 14 days’ imprisonment with hard labor. The money not being forthcoming, he was sent to gaol. We understand that, after his committal, Mytten had the assurance to write a note to Mrs Bowcrrs, requesting her to pay his [fine, and thus save lam from prison.
