Hawke’s Bay Boiling Down Co. —A ■meeting of shareholders of the above company took place in the Council Chamber at eight o’clock last evening; but as the proceedings were of a strictly private nature, we are precluded from giving a report. Wo may mention that no tiles of the Daily Southern Cross came to hand by the ‘ Ahuriri.’ Heavy Wind. —Yesterday opened with a heavy gale from the north-west, which increased daring the day to a hurricane, rendering walking very unpleasant from the clouds of dust. In the afternoon tho fvrvboat, in attempting to cross within the heads, was caught in a squall and driven outside into f lie Bay, but was safely beached on tho Eastern Spit, with nrovidentially no wors° consequences than a uucki"g to the ferryman and a passenger. Aut Onion.— Wo have he m favored by the courtesy of Mr T. S. Kemp with an inspection of a somewhat, extensive series ef Iwaf ereolor drawings which that talented artist has just iinished, and wo believe intends to distribute after the plan adopted by the Art Union of London early next month. We shall be in a position to give full particulars of the scheme in our nuxt issue. We cordially wish tho enterprise ail the success it so well deserves. It will he mac inhered that Mr Kemp made a simil ir distribution last year.
