The Aixniirss to llis Royal Highness the Duke of RuisurEQn. —On Saturday we had the pleasure of inspecting a very elegant specimen of artistic talent by our respected fellow-townsman, Mr A. Koch, of the Survey Office. We allude to the address of condolence with, and congratulation to, his Royal Highness the Duke of Kdmburgh on the occasion of the recent dastardly attempt at his assassination, and his providential escape therefrom. The address consists of a shield, with an open ornamented edge, on which the address is written in German gothic. The headings and initials arc illuminated in gold and colors. The background to the left shews the native flax and fern tree the latter supporting the Hawke’s Day coat of arms; to the right of the shield is a cabbage tree, with Maoris in front of their wharc-puna, iu full native costume. The upper corners and centre shew- the Rose, Shamrock, and Thistle, the emblems of nationality. Along the edges of the shield are the names of the different towns in the Province; and at the foot is the date, with open space for

signatures. As a work of art wc have sch dom seen anything at all approaching to it. It is such as would do credit to any professional artist; and we are glad to find that Hawke’s Bay will not bo behind any of her neighbors in the character of the testimony she bears to the loyalty of her people, and the affection they hold to Her Majesty Queen Victoria and* her family. ,
