g __ C ; \xTF,iSßrnY.—The Canterbury Times, of the 7th JL'.rcli, contains the folio wing "report : A briskness* still exists in the demand for fat ■cattle. and any stock of this description brought ;to the sale yards are eagerly competed for, showing a determination on the part of Vest Coast 3- dealers not to be beaten by the Australian cattle shipped to the Coast. The chief cause of the prer sent spurt in the market is, that the floods passed IT o-,-er the. pastures where the dealers had their leyvock: since then they have fallen off coasidcr.j'ably in condition, tints compelling those in the u trade 1o purchase more freely at the sales, so as • to keep up their constant supply to the Const. The bidding at the Carlton yards last Veduesday was very brisk, and nearly no head of cattle were sold; lohO sheep wore also yarded, and nearly the whole sold. The yards were not large enough 5 to allow the whole to coma under the hammer. and many purchases were in consequence made 0. privately alter the auction. In stations, we observe that the Tarandale run, in the Aelson province, is to be sold by auction in Cnvistchnrch, on the ISth last. Tim most reliable quotations for stock are—cows A in milk, from £lO to A; 16: heifers, £3 to £l2; fat cattle, 37s 6d per bVdbs, if in prime condition; 'J medium and inferior, nominal: two-year-old steers from £7 to £9; heifers, do.; 6to 8 months-old calves, from £3 10s to £4; store cattle, in fair conid ditic.n, have boon sold at, for cows, £6 to £7 ■ bullocks, at £S 2s hd. In sheep no alteration in former quotations have taken place.
Or.vGO. —The following telegram, dated 11.30 a.m. on the Ctli iust, appears iu the Canterbury Tunes, March 7 : Provincial flour, £lO 10s per ton; old wheat, 7a per bushel i new do. Ca 6d; oats, 2s 8d: barley, 3s yd; potatoes, B 7 per ton.
