DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
Thb firing for the di trict prizes annually given by the General Government came off st the nfis range on the beach on lionday leet, 17th 5 net. It will be seen that G. Blake and Northa were a tie. This was shot for at the close of the day, each competitor having two shots at, 400 yards. Both made a contra the first shot, hut, at the second, Blake scored 4 and Northe 1, so that the former was declared the winner of the first prize of the first class. The tie for the second prize (between Renouf and Crass* ■well) was shot for on Tuesday morning, when the former made a miss, the latter making & centre and carrying off the prize. SECOND CLASS PRIZES. The above was shot for by men belonging to the several militia companies in and about Napier. Their scores show a slight improvement on the firing of the Competitors for the first class prizes. The winner, Andrew Blake, will take the first prize of the second class and the medal for the best shot in the district. Subjoined will be found the scores ;
COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING. Th® preliminary competitive firing took place yesterday. The shooting was anything but satisfactory— the result being that 35 points (out of a possible 84) was the highest number scored, and that, in consequence—the score of 39 made at the country firing being also below the minimum—the Province of Hawke's Bav will be without a representative at the forthcoming Colonial Prize Firing to take place at "Wellington. The ranges were 400, 500, and 600 yards, and as, unfortunately, we cannot in this issue publish the detailed scores, wa give below the name of each competitor, with the number of points made at each range, and the totals:—
