SiiiioN fob New Zealand. —Wo find the foilowiug in a late English paper “At the annual meeting of the Board of Conservators of the River Fishery District, held at Worcester, Lord Northwick in the chair, an application was made to the board by Mr Youl, of Watarah House, to be allowed to take salmon from the River Severn for 'scientific purposes,’ under the new Salmon Act. Hr Youl’s proposition is to take breeding fish from the Severn strip them of their spawn and milt, and transmit the impregnated spawn to Otago, New Zealand. Three years ago Mr Youl obtained salmon spawn from the Severn and other British rivers, which was transported successfully to Tasmania, and the produce of which is now breeeding in the Tasmanian rivers he proposes to adopt tire same course with respect to the salmon spawn for New Zealand. Mr Youl will also! obtain fish, if possible, from Welch and Scotch rivers. At the same meeting the noble chairman gave to the board his experience in pisicnlture. He had hatched a quantity of trout in a small stream at North wicks park, and his results were far more satisfactory than the experiments of other persons, his losses having been, taking two years’ hatching, only about five per cent., whereas other experimentalists had set down t heir losses at 90 per cent. Among the fish he had hatched had been several monsters, —some with two heads, Dinars witn two buu ouc of two ‘Siamese twins.’ In the season before last he had ten of of these monsters, but none of them lived over a week.”
