The despaches were forwarded to Sir George Grey on Sunday morning by the Sturt which sailed for Manakau by way of the West Coast. The Hons. Colonel Haultain and J. C. Richmond were passengers by her. It certainly seems rather wanting in courtesy to his Excellency to forward despatches of so much importance by such a round-about way instead of sending the Sturt direct to Kawa. —Wellington independent, ISth January,
