The Late Riot in Melbourne. —The Argus, 16th December, says:— William Cross, the unfortunate boy who received a gunshot wound iu the right breast on the night of the 27th November, in Steplieuetrcct, expired at, the Melbourne Hospital at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mrs Cross had not been gone above half-an-hour when her son died, apparently without pain.

Prison Commission.— His Honor Mr Justice Johnston, His Honor Mr Justice Tuchmoiid, the Hou. Colonel Peacocke, C, E. Houghton, Esq., M.H.E., and James O’Neill, Lsq , have been appointed a Commission to enquire into and report unon (he working of the prison laws, the management, &c., of the gaols in the colony, and tho desirability of founding a General Penal Establishment. The Commission is to report within six months.
