Thr well-known regular-trading brig Maggie, Captain Howie, made her number at an early hour on Wednesday (yesterday) morning, but owing to Iho prevalence of light winds, it was about 11 am. before sbe brought up in the roadstead. The Maggie left Newcastle on Wednesday, 11th Dec., and had light westerly winds as far as Cape Pallihu.r, which was made on Saturday, 21st instant, on which day wind changed suddenly to N.E , blowing a gale. At midnight ou the 21st wind veered to W.X.W., and continued so until noon on Tuesday, 21th inst. Since then had light variable winds and calms, —bringing up in roadstead at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day, making a very fair passage of 11 days. On the 21st, off Cape Pallisev, sighted the Duke of Edinburgh going into Wellington—pilot going on board at 11 a.m. The following is a list of the Maggie’s cargo:—29s tons coal, 10 tons maize, 5 tons bran, 000 spokes, consigned to Mr J. H. Vautier. The Maggie will most probably enter the Iron Pot to-morrow.
The schooner Onward, Captain Edwards, arrived in port at 8 o’clock on Tuesday night last, after a remarkably quick run of 36 hours from Mercury Bay. She brings up a cargo of 40,524 feet sawn timber.
The schooner Muriwai, from Poverty Bay; and the Cleopatra, from AVairoa and Poverty Bay—both arrived on Tuesday. The schooner Saucy Lass sailed for Auckland, via Bay of Plenty, in ballast, on Tuesday last.
