Napier Boy's School, Texnysox street. —This school, which for the last liltoen months has been conducted by Mr W. Hudson, in the Odd Fellow’s Hall, was examined on the Gth hast., his Honor the Supeiinteiident being present. The boys showed much progress, and their conduct and gene ral demeanour was excellent. The following are tne names of those who have taken prizes;—Reading, Joseph Chicken, first class; John Martin, second class; James Morley, 3rd class Writing, C. M'Cormick, first class; James Oliver, 2nd class. Arithmetic, Joseph Bo worn. Geography, William A. Harding; Dictation, F. Beaglev ; Good conduct and general improvement, John LingarJ. The total num- ■ iu-r on the books during the quarter was 05, of which the average attend iance lias been 29. Tlie want of a |proper school-room is mucli felt.

Excursion Trip to Pania Rock and Kidnapper.—ln order to add to the attractions of this trip, a brass band will accompany the excursionists.
Artesian Well for the Spit.— Oftc** has it been our lot to record the fact that there is no source of water supply for the Spit except the rainfall, which has for the past live years been very inadequate for the supply ol the needs of Use inhabitants. The present excessively dry season brings the want of water home to the consciousness of every one, and the success of the artesian wells in other parts of the Province leads us to believe that there w'onhl be but Utile difiiculty in procuring an abundant supply from that jsource. We need scarcely allude to j the advantage as regards the shipping |and mercantile interest an abundant isupply of fresh water easily accessible
woultl confer on the port, amt, as we understand that Mr Garry would sink a well and Guarantee water for the sum of £IOO, surely our paternal Government will take this important matter in hand, and so remove the existing inconvenience and reproach from the port of Napier.
