Oxago anp xriE Duke of Edinburgh. —The Superintendent of Otag) haring written to the Hon. the Colonial Secretary of New Zealand, stating that a very general desire was being expressed that the Duke of Edinburgh should visit that province, received the following reply : To Iris Honor the Superintendent, Otago. Sir, —I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Honor’s letter. No. 8,116, of the 19th inst., and to state that the Government has no information with respect to the intended visit of his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh to New Zealand, beyond what is conveyed in the despatches from tire Secretary of State, numbered and dated respectively No. 19 of the Ist May, and 39 of the 26th June last, and presented during the recent session to the Legislature, which only state generally that his Royal | Highness will only visit Auckland and Wellington, i Should it be found on the arrival of his Royal' Highness that his other engagements would admit I it, he will be advised to visit the principal settlements. .including Otago, in the Southern Island. Until more is known of the probable stay which his Royal Highness will make in this colony, and whether he will be able to travel through the country, and how many places he will visit, it is impossible to slate how the funds voted for his reception will be available for expenditure in any one j place.—l have, &c., E.
