EXPECTED VISIT OF THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH.

Thk "Wanganui Phronicle savs :—“By the p.s. Rangatira, which sailed yesterday afternoon. a sergeant and six soldiers of the 18th Regiment proceeded to Auckland to net as an escort for the removal of the colors of the regiment from thence to Wanganui. This, however, is only a preparatory step to the removal of t’e headquarters and three companies to Wellington, to be there for the purpose of giving a fitting reception at the capital of New Zealand to H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. It is also very probable that an equal number will be ordered to Auckland for a like purpose there. The Prince is expected at Kawau about the beginning of December, and in Wellington at the end of that month. These dates may be materially affected one way or other ; the frigate Galatea making the voyage round the world under canvas it is more than probable that the date of the expected arrival of the Princ- in New Zealand will be further postponed. The dispersion of the 18th Regiment will effectually end the military occupation of Wanganui on a lavge scale—an occupation which some affect to dislike, but which all will find cause to regret when it comes about.”
