THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
The Provincial Council met, as per adjournment, on Tuesday afternoon, and proceeded to business, although His Honor the Superintendent was not present, he having been detained in Wellington at the request of the General Government. A report of the proceedings of that day's sitting will be found elsewhere.
The Council met again yesterday at the usual sitting hour, and, with only an hours cessation, sat till 9 p.m. The business done was very little. The second readings of the Sheep Branding, Dog Nuisance, and Slaughter House Hills were postponed; the District Hoads Bill was read a second time, after considerable discussion, on a division ; and the Toll Gate Bill, after a most determined opposition, extending over several hours, was read a second time, and ordered to be cotnmiied the same day. The Council will meet again at 3 p.m, this day.
