SIB. WHIEED LAWSON. Died June 12th, 1867. QtMID the grandeur of the Cumbrian county C 7 Belov’d so well, To Soo-1 an-Vfeli " He placed a people round the western highlands „ Not lightly stirred; JJut firm as firmest in our British islands In deed and word ; Not stirred from duty by the scorning laughter And careless Jeer, which those who labor for the “good hereafter" Too often hear. We ever sorrow for the wide removal, From earthly sight, Of these who, better than the worlds approval Have loved the right. ' Such was the patriarch, from his halls of Brayton So lately gone, Who sought the crookedness of earth to straighten By moving on. On with the foremost in each wise amending Of life and laws; Alike his riches and his influence lending To upright cause. Though never more the friends of progress find him Their helper true. He leaveth others of his name behind him To dare and do. Not less than his have been their efforts noble For human weal; Give them Thy comfort in this day of trouble Thou who caust heal. * M. H.
