Commercial.
OTAGO. DRIVER, KACLEAS AND CO.’S HOIfmLT RETORT OF UV£ STOCK, STATIONS, WOOL, ETC. Dunedin, 20th April market since the date of our last issue. The demand for Store Sheep of all descriptions still continues good, and our former quotations are fully maintained. Our transactions, which have been large during the month, have been chiefly in stock from Canterbury, as we had previously disposed of nearly all the Otago Sheen placed in our hands. Good Store Cattle are scarce, and prices show a slight tendency to improvement. Pat Cattle have been brought forward in moderate numbers, and prices remain firm We look for a more limited supply, and a consequent increase in value during the winter months. Fat Sheep of fair quality are offering freely, as is usual at this season, at slightly easier rates, but we do not look for any material alteration for some lime to come. Our sales during the month have been as follows: Store Stock.—Maiden Ewes at 17s to 17s and 6d each; 2,4, 6, aud 8-tooth do, equal proportions, at Its to 1.5 s and fid ; full-mouthed do, at 12s to 13s ; Wethers, at 12s to 13-; Mixed Lambs at per pair, 21s to 225; Store Cattle, Mixed herds, at £7 10s to £9 ids, according to quality : do Bullocks, 2to 5 years old, £9 IPs to £lO. We have just sold and delivered a cargo, ex Hydra, from Port Stephens, at £9 10s.
Fat Stock.—Prime Wethers, delivered in town, 4d per lb; Prime Cattle, do do, 4os per lOOlbs; ordinary Cattle, do do, 4')s to 42s and (is. Country Sales. —Our sales at Palmerston and Wailiemo were well attended, and all the lots brought forward found purchasers at about the ratesquoted above. We would call attention to our sales at Mr Hits’station, Kaikaia, on the2sth hist., ■of 9 iJO Sheep; and at Lovell’s flat aud Clutha Ferry on the 2bih and 27 th respectively, of Horses, Gallic and cheep. Pure-Bred stock,—lVc would likewise call attention to our sale of purc-hred German sheep, Uamboui’.lets. Leicester's, ic., on the 2Uh hist.
stations.—Several very suxierior properties are at picseut in the market, most of which are likely to change hands ilaringfthe ensuing mouth. We note the -sale of Mr M'Gregor’s Cottesbrooke and iJaid I'.ill .stations to Messrs .Smith and GeUibrand. eouuiry at 3s hd xier acre, stock and improvements at valuation.
Wool.—Our sales held during the ’month were as usual, well attended by the loading merchants, fellmonger.-, and others. Compared with previous sales, the quantity catalogued was small, as the season is now drawing to a close ; but with one or two exceptions, ail me lots ottered were disposed of either by auction or privately; at about former, rates. As is usual towards the end of the season, a great number of snail lots were quilted. sheepskins.—Wo disposed of a large quantity at very satisfactory prices. 1 rom fd to fid per lb for pelts, and tram tipi to s‘d for wo ilskins.
Hides.—There are very few oife.ing, and prices are maintained.
Tallow. —Very scarce. We quote same priceas per last mail, from J 233 to £;>.i for fair sorts.
