SKLF. ST is easy encash to conquer the world. Or. To heat down each cowardly elf: r> ould Goo I could vanquish half as soon Tho devil within myself! For the world, when you face it, soon gives in, _ And plays but a poor, mean part. But whoever yet could measure the alrcuglli Of his own bad wayward heart r Ay! ’tis easy to seem externally good, It is easy to bear the head high, But where should we be if the soul of each Were bared to the coid world s eye r Where should we be if tho minds of all Could be read hi the tell-tale face— If the thoughts we think, the sins we dream, Were told in the market-place ? We should never forget the lesson true That our blessed Saviour taught, When the woman "caught in the very act” Was to him for judgment brought; How, mourning within for their hard hard hearts And the sinner’s fearful lot, He, sighing, stooped and wrote on the ground. As though he heard them not,— How He said “Let him without sin of you First cast at her a stone ” ; And convicting themselves, the accusers all Left Him and the woman alone. “Doth no man condemn theer” “No man, Lord,” And the trembling wretch wept sore. “Neither do I,” said the merciful one; “Go thou, and siu no more.” 0 friend of mine! whoever thou art, No more in darkness live; Thy brother’s sins, thy sister’s faults. Pity—forget—forgive. Perchance when the Judge who judgeth all Khali hear thy tearful plea, The thought of those thou hast forgiven ilay help to pardon thee. Ah me! when at night 1 kneel and pray For strength ’gainst unseen foes, For courage true to bear ms through This state of trials and woes— To God, to save me from drink and hell, And from the love of pelf,— 1 feel that by far the worst of all foes Is the devil within myself! —Alliance News. F. Darling.
