LONDON WOOL EEPOET. 25th Jan. Since last sates there has been a few enquiries, of a very limited character. The advance paid has been about one penny, but that only one sort, most wanted; it ts not expected Unit prices will be maintained at .March sales. Bradford market quiet, and although manufacturers are moderately tamy, yet orders do not equal expectations. KELSON. Examiner Office, March It - The depression which has prevailed in all branches of trade lor several mouths past remains in much me same stale, nor do wo see where to look for any immediate improvement. There is one circumstance to winch we shall refer presently, tuat wdl undoubtedly prove of great service to the trade of our port, and to the province general!} - , if advantage is taken of the prospect it appears to hold out. Owing to the general slackness of trade, stocks of mo.-t kinds arc abundant, and any short ness (that exists will be fully supplied ou the arrival of 1 the Fairy Belle, now due. Flour is dull, aim ! stocks move oil" slowly. Importations from America have nearly ceased to all the Australian colonies, and several cargoes lately arrived at Sydney and Melbourne, Have been sent ou in the samo bottoms to England. From South Australia the shipments of wheat to England have been very large, and it may fairly be expected that the Australian market, relieved of its heavy stock or breadstnlfs, prices will advance, though nothing like the prices of former years can be looked for. j SYDNEY. I The Sydney Morning Herald, in its commercial ‘ftrtic.e on mo sth instant, says;—“By telegram | Irom Melbourne we learn that In committee on I the tariff the Government carried the proposed jduty of yd. per cwt. on grain. This, of course, in!eludes maize, with which the Victorian markets .are largely supplied by this colony. In 18(15, I shipments to Melbourne from the various ports of New South M ales amounted to 813,783 bushels, of an avera. c laiue of 3s. Last year's star Misties arc not yet available ; but the quantity is Smujwu to have been much larger than any previous year. If this year's exports equal those of ,last, there will ho a revenue of l‘Js. dei rived principally from the pockets of tho maize growers of New South rt ales.”
