[Pek Submarine Inter-Provincial Telegraph.] Dunedin, Thursday, 10'35 a.m. Of 7277 votes in the Province, 1911 have voted for Macandrew and 1119 for Dick. In Dunedin Macandrew bad a majority of, 341, the numbers being* Macandrew 869, and Dick 528. In Port Chalmers Macandrew polled 134 to Dick’s 13. The returns from the gold-fields, and other country districts are not yet all in, but in those that have been received Macandrew had large majorities, except at Waikara, where he polled 10 to Dick’s 14. Macandrew’s election is considered certain, and there has been great excitement in town in consequence. His present majority is 7 92. The prospectus of a new daily paper has been issued. The capital to be £7500 in 3600 shares of £2 10s. each. The Governor has been enthusiastically received everywhere. He leaves for the country districts on Saturday. [We can scarcely understand how our correspondent calculates that out of 7277 voters in the Province, 1911 voted for Macandrew and 1,119 for Dick, ’ as the returns are not all in’ and the result of the poll has not been declared.
