MASONIC HALL—BENEFIT OF MRS W.H. NEWTON.
.Mbs TV. 11. Newton’s benefit at the Masonic Hall last night was a triumuhanl success. The attendance, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, was large and respectable. “ Plot and Passion ”is a splendid piece, and it was well rendered ; Mrs Newton’s splendid impersonation of Madame de Eontanges was much admired ; while Mr Newton as Louche, Air Hemp as Desmarets, and Mr Swan as Henri de Neuvilie, sustained their respective parts in an admirable manner. And we believe that a very plesaut evening was passed by all who were present. Thunders of applause (which was heard ou the Eastern Spit) greeted the performers throughout the play, and at its close both Mr and Mm Newton were called before the curtain. We are glad to perceive by an advertisement elsewhere that “Plot and Passion’’ will be repeated on Saturday night next, whoa we again hope to have the pleasure of seeing a full house.
