Slade and Fawcett tie for top place with 243 each. There was much excitement during the match, and the Governor was present every day. Du its conclusion the health ot both teams, umpires, and top scorers was proposed and drnuk, w hen Ensign Strong took occasion to express, on behalf of the New South Wales team, that they had been treated in the most considerate and hospitable manner by the Victorians. There are 26 entries lor the Champion Match, whicii comes off' on Monday. News from Hobart Town states that Mr Chapman, Treasurer 111 Mr Hay's iMiuistry, had been defeated m the election for that place. Breadstuff's, no quotations; hams and bacon are improving, 16d in uond being asked. 10th December. M’Clure won the championship of the Australian colonies, with a score of 158 points, at 3UU UOO, and 90U yards, 10 shots each. Slade, second prize; Sharp, 3rd; Liusey, fourth ; and Strong, sth. The niiemen will return on Thursday. The Supreme Court refused to grant leave for an appeal to the Privy Council in the case of the owners of the i’cuola till after the new trial. The markets are dull; nothing doing in breadstuffs. A shark, 16 feet long, was caught below Brighton. Californian wheat, ex Woodlands, was offered at auction, and but a small quantity sold at 55., the rest was w ithdrawn: the attendance was large. Oats, 3s ud to 3s Sd; barley, 3s. Sales of fine salt at £4 ios. Curusacks are increasing in demand; sales, Dundee, at 13s 6d. Woolpacks, neglected. Prime beef brought 25s lUOlbs. Fat sheep, no alteration on last week’s rates. He declined to give any information as to the intentions of Government. 10,000 acres of pastoral land, being a portion of 200,000 acres advertized in large blocks for squatting, were offered at auction to-day, but none sold. The principal banks have agreed to reduce the rates ot discount to 7,8, and 9 per cent, for 65, 95, and 125 days ; the rate of interest on deposits is increased to 4,5, and G, at 30, 60, and 90 days’ notice. Breadstuffs more animated; Chilian wheat firmer ; numerous enquiries show that shipments to England are contemplated, Californian, for local use, sold at £4 10s ; barley at 3s to 3s 3d ; maize steady at 4s to 4s 3d; Glenshee’s Java rice was offered at auction, but withdrawn ; sales privately at £23 10s ; sugars ranged from £27 to £35 ; Java coffee, 8J ; small sales of malt at lls Gd ; the Ranti pole’s teas are selling well; kerosene dull—sales of Downer’s at 3|d. The Australia, from Java, with rice, sugar, and coffee, is ordered to Sydney. ADELAIDE. 10th December. Government received eleven tenders for the survey of land in the Northern territory. They will probably decide- to-morrow. Weather warm and fine, very favorable for the Business is very dull, and there is want of confidence, owing to continuance of failures. 950 bags sugar, ex Aldinga, all sold at an advance on previous rates; wheat and flour unaltered, and transactions limited, owing to the small quantity offering; wheat, 4s 3d to 4s 4d ; flour, lls to 12s lOd. Arrived.—Jcddo, from British Columbia. 11th December. A public meeting is to be held in the Townhall to-night to oppose the increase to the Governor’s salary. A meeting of Protestant ministers is to be shortly held on the subject of the Marriage Law Amendment Bill. Eight out of the eleven tenders for the survey of the Northern territory are from Victoria or New South Wales. No change in the corn market. Wheat 4s 3d to 4s 4d bushel; flour, £ll 10s to £l3 10s $ ton. Arrived.— Evening Star, from Memel, with limber. 12th December. A large meeting was held at the Town-hall last night, at which resolutions were carried opposing the proposed increase to the Governor’s salary ; and a petition is to be presented to Parliament, embodying the substance of these resolutions. The Assembly has agreed to a bill for borrowing £150,000 for the construction ot a new reservoir. The Estimates have all passed, and a speedy close of of the session is anticipated. £25,000 is io be expended next year in the improvement of the port. At the wool sales yesterday, greasy brought 8d to—B Jd ; wheat for immediate delivery is scarce, but the price is unaltered at 4« 3d to 4s 4d; flour is very dull at £ll 10s to £l2 10s. Arrived.—Elizabeth and Matilda, with a cargo of tea, from the Baltic,; both this vessel and the Evening Star are ordered off to Melbourne. 13th December. Very heavy rains in the for north. Wilpcna Creek flooded, bringing down large gum trees; the rain commenced os Saturday morning and continued until noon on Sunday. Horses are much wanted. A Creole lady was insulted by a son of Sir Henry Barkley, and her brother sent liim a challenge, winch was declined, —and he was afterward* thrashed in the street. BATAVIA. Ist November, The Dutch Government have appropriated ths sum of £8,500 per annum towards suusidizing a line of steamers between Batavia and Australia. The Woodbine had left for Melbourne, with sugars; and the Restless for Sydney, with sugar and rice.
There were ready for sailing three other vessels, for ports not named, also three for Sydney. Considerable shipments of rice had been made to Australia.
