The s.s. Beautiful Star, Captain Morwick, arrived in bar. boron Monday afternoon last, being absent just a week. She left Napier on.the 36th pit,, at, 19-30 a.m.. with a cargo ot sheep for Auckland; experienced light head winds to the East Cape;: and from thence light N.N.W. winds till arriving St the Tamaki on'the 28th nit., at 8 p.m. Discharged her sheep the next morning, and proceeded up harbor, when she was placed on the hard in Official Bay to get cleaned. Next day, wont alongside Queen-st. Wharf to load; and at 4 p.m. on Ist December left for Napier. Had light westerly winds and calms to White Island; and light head winds from thence to port. Dropped anchor in |he roadstead at 4-50 p.m. oh Monday last, 3rd December. Reports having sighted the Star of the South off Gable End Foreland; also a large sbip or barque off Table Cape—probably the Cambalu, winch left this port on Sunday. last. The Beautiful Star this trip has had extraordinarily quick despatch. She entered the Irou Pot early on Tuesday morning, discharged all her cargo (which was a large one), took on board 450 sheep, and left again for Auckland about 6 o’clock yesterday morning. The cutter Betsy, J. Trimmer, master, arrived here on Tuesday last, with a cargo of timber from the Tairua saw mills. As will be seen by advertisement elsewhere, this fine cutter leaves for Poverty Bay to-morrow (Friday.) Tl,e cutter Bittern, Goldsworthy, master, from Auckland via Cabbage Bay, with a cargo of sawn timber, shingles, &c., arrived here on Tuesday afternoon last. The s.s. Storm Bird, Captain Gleadow, may be looked for to-morrow (Friday) from Tauranga and Auckland. She will leave for the same places cn Saturday, Bth last., calling at Poverty Bay should sufficient inducement offer. The s.s. Lord Ashley, Captain Kennedy, is due from Taurauga and Auckland on Saturday, 15th December, at noon, and will leave for Southern Provinces same day at 5 pun. The departures since our last have been as follows’:— On Monday, the brigantine Balmoral, for Hobart Town, in ballast; the s.a. Lord Ashley, for Tauranga and Auckland, with cargo and passengers ; the schooner Donald M'Lean, lor Poverty Bay, with cattle; and the schooner Joanna, for Auckland, in ballast; on Tuesday there were none; on Wednesday, the s.s. Beautiful Star, for Auckland, with sheep; the schooner Queen, for Auckland, in ballast; the cutter Agnes, for Poverty Bay, with cargo and passengers. The p.s. Sturt, for Auckland via Wairoa, Poverty Bay, and other places on the East Coast, will leave this day, weather permitting. The p.s. Huntress has changed hands—Capt G.E.Eead, of Poverty Bay, being tho lucky purchaser. We understand that £SOO is the sum our Government has derived by this transaction She has cost them as many thousands, if not more.
The cutter Dolphin may now bo hourly looked for from Wairoa. IVe learn that, on the 27th ult.; she was ready to leave for Napier, but tho sea outside was so heavy, that Captain Sohon did not deem it advisable to venture out.
The schooner Henry, which vessel has for so long a period been an eye-sora to the port, has at length been rendered lit for sea, aud now looks as smart as any vessel we have seen here for inany a day. We believe she will leave for Waikari in a day or two, under command of Captain E. Baxter, formerly of the wrecked schooner Lady Bird. Tho schooner Saucy Lass and cutter Eaglo both left Auckland for this port via Mercury Bay on the 2Sth ult.
