PETANE.
[IEOM A COEEESPONDENT.] Bth Sept., 1866. The usual quietness of this place was interrupted on Thursday last, 6th inst., by the arrival of about thirty Hau-haus from Titiokura. A large body are expected to arrive here shortly. A native passing up the coast to Turauga, says that a Uauhau stopped him near the Petane pah, aud demanded his blankets. Upon his refusing to give them up, the rebel capped his rifle, and threatened to shoot him, whereupon he (the friendly) gave the Uau-haa a pair of trousers and a sl.irt; and was then told to be off as quick as possible. Of course there is very little reliance to be placed in this story, as Maoris are noted for stretching a point or so at times.
