The New Zealand Steam Navigation Co.’s s.s. Taranaki, Captain H. B. Francis, left Wellington at 3 30 p.m. on Tuesday, 4th September; had fine weather up the coast, aud dropped anchor in the roadstead at half-past ten yesterday morning.’ The Taranaki brings up a large general cargo. ARRIVAL OF THE SATELLITE. The cutter Satellite, Captain Currie, left Auckland on the 21st ult., arrived at Wangapoa on the 23rd; took in a cargo of 25,000 ft. sawu timber; and left for this port on the 30th ult. Bounded the East Cape on the 2nd inst. and brought up in the roadstead at 5-30 p.m. on Tuesday last. , Captain Currie reports having sighted the schooner William and Julia, hence the 2nd inst., with cattle, off Table Cape on the evening of the 3rd. MISCELLANEOUS. The brig Maggie sailed for Newcastle, in ballast, on Mon. day last. Mr Vautier was a passenger by this opportunity' The schooner Jeame Duncan sailed for Picton, in bah last, on Monday last. The s.s. Taranaki, as will be seen by advertisement, will leave for W cliington this.day, at noon, The s.a. Star of tbe South, with cattle for the Auckland market, will leave this morning. The s.s. Lord Ashley, Cap lain Haglcy, steamed for Tauranga and Auckland on Thursday la«t, conveying 130 men of the 2nd battalion 14th Regiment, and 23 women. The cutter Satellite, as will he seen by advertisement in cur first page, is opea for freight or charter. The schooner Queen was at Wangapoa loading timber for this port when the Satellite left, and was to leave the next day, so that she may be hourly looked for. The schooner Eose Ann was at Wangapoa when the Satellite left, aud was loading timber for Wairoa. There was no sign of the Napier when the Taranaki left Wellington, she being then 151 days out. The cutter Mahia, which left for Waikari on Sunday evening last, returned to port early yesterday .morning, having succeeded in landing all her cargo safely. The colonial gun-boat St. Hilda, Captain Kennedy, pro ceeded yesterday morning to Terawiti. for the purpose of picking up the remaining portion of the broken cable. She returned to port at 5 p.m., having been unable to grapple for it. inconsequence of the strong wind and high confused sea.—" Wellington Independent, 4th September.
