THE THEATRE.
The Theatre Royal, on Tuesday, evening, was crowded in every part, which we were very glad to see. The piece selected was “ Eatharina and Petrucio,” oneof Shakespeare’s dramas. The acting throughout was excellent. Mrs W. H. Foley appeared as “ Katharina,” and performed her part with her usual tact and judgment—indeed, in our opiuion, she played better on Tuesday night than ever we remember to have seen her } and at the conclusion of the play she was vociferously applauded, and called before the curtain. “ Hortensio” found an able representative in Mr Vernon Webster, who performed his part with becoming taste. “ Petrucio ” was well rendered by Mr W. H. Newton ; and Mr Sefton was decidedly “ail there” as “ Baptiste. Mrs Sefton took two parts, —“ Bianca” and “Curtis,” —both of which sue managed very well. The remaining parts were well laaen by other members of the company. The comic Heed followed, with a uc>v local song. This contained one excellent hit. out while it was being sung, we heard whispers to the ellect that it was a “ barbarous ” joke ; so we will only mention that it was greeted with loud applause, as also was “Yellow JJusha Belle.” Tue performances concluded with the amusing farce of “Mr and Mrs Peter White.” Mr H. Safton as “ yolonel Pepper,” was capital. He takes the old man to perfection. Mr WJi. Newton, us “Mr Peter \Vhite,” Mr Web.ter as “Frank 8r0w..,” Mrs Foley as “ Widow White,” Mrs Seftou as “ Kitty Clover, and Miss Annie Merton as “ Mrs Peter White,” —were all that could be desirea ; and we feel persuaded that there were few at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday night who did not go away thoroughly pleased with their evening’* enjoyment.
