Sad Reverse of Fortune.—“ What may happen to a man in Australia ” received a sad illustration the other day, during the hearing of a Police Court case, at Quenscliffe. James Moore was sued for a debt of £2 or £3, and pleaded inability to pay it. The money was handed over by Captain Liddle, of the lightship. Fifteen years ago, Moore came to Victoria as captain and part owner of a largo ship, and sole owner of the cargo. As a lieutenant in the navy, he brought with him high testimonials from Admiral Keith and distinguished nobleman, besides letters of introduction to the Governor. Liddle, who remembered Moore as one of the wealthy and influential gentlemen of Melbourne, found his old friend a poor fisherman at Queenscliffe, without a sixpence.—Age.
