Supreme Court. —On Saturday, the Supreme Court was occupied with the consideration of the question whether Isaac Rogers Sutton of the Province of Hawke’s Bay, Nurseryman, was a lunatic, and not sufficient for the management of his affairs. The case principally rested upon certain letters that he bad written, having reference to the Bank New Zealand, stating that he had received unfair treatment from it, and that it was in an unsound condition. Mr Wilson appeared for the prosecution, while Mr Sutton conducted his own defence. The Jury decided that Mr Sutton was not of unsound mind, so as to be incapable of managing his own affairs. Hawke’s Bay Tot at. Abstinence Society.—ln accordance with au advertisement which appeared in our last issue, a meeting of persons favorable to the formation of a Total Abstinence for the Province of Hawke’s Bay was held in Mr Hasweii’s school-room, on Thursday evening last, 2nd August,—resulting in the formation -of a society as proposed, the election of a committee and office bearers, aud the adoption of the declaration, known as the American pledge, as the basis of membership.
