A large sale of rice has taken place at last quotations, and the balance in stock is lield for £29 10s. MAUEITIUS, [Yia Melboubne.] News to the 14th June has been received per Eva Joshua. There is no fine sugar on the island except the stock held by Joshua, Brothers, and they are sending it in fortnightly cargoes to Melbourne. Quotations are nominal, second quality yellow crystals, 7 dollars 50 c. to 7 dollars 75 c. per 100 lbs ; good yellow counters, 5 dollars 50 cents to 6 dollars 75 cents. Flour is low owing to the largo importations, and salt beef is also dull from the heavy arrivals from America; oats, 4 dollars per 100 lbs; coals are scarce, and the first cargoes to arrive will probably realise 9 to. 10 dollars; stocks of tobacco are very small, and sales have been made at from £4 to 15 dollars per 100 lbs, and an advance is expected. The new crop of sugar is estimated to yield 150,000 tons, the largest for five or six years past. The Ziska sailed on the 9th June for Sydney, and had on board 180 tans of sugar purchased at high prices. A large meeting was held at the Town Hall last night, to urge the completion of the Volunteer Force instead of calling out militia. A Resolution was passed in favor of the Volunteers. The immigration question still excites popular feeling. A resolution was passed at a public meeting to the eflect that was necessary for working men to form, a political union, and to register their votrs preparatory to the next election. A fresh gold discovery has made at Glen Garnock, on the river Torrens. .The Acclimatisation Society has been dissolved, owing to inefficient support. W. Leaver, the defaulter of the Oddfellows’ (M.U.) funds has been captured. It is reported that the Government have decided on the immediate formation of a military road between Glenelg and the Semaphore. More cases of highway robbery are reported. Corn market inactive ; no transactions. Wheat, 6s to 6s Id; flour, £ls to,’£ls 10s; bran, Is 7d. NEWCASTLE. . 18th July. The inquest on the bodies recovered from the late wrecks closed to-day, and the jury returned a verdict of Found drowned.” In a rider the jury say “ that from the tenor the evidence laid before them, there ought to bo a strict inquiry instituted by the Government into the present unsatisfactory arrangements of the life-boat, its present position, and inefficient management, with a view of insuring a double crew and quick despatch of the life-boat when required for the purposes of saving life.” LATEST FROM ENGLAND. The Melbourne ‘Age,’ 14th July, savs that “ although the telegrams relative to the flight of the Pope and the advance of Garibaldi into Venetia have proved to be false, wo fear there is little doubt but that war lias already broken out. A telegram received in Melbourne, dated Loudon, 14th Juue, states that war is inevit able.”
