X—Ahuriri, s.s., 131 tons, Elowerday, for Wellington, with 1 case, 2 bales wool, 1 bullock dray, Janisch; I case sundries, Danvers.—V, Janisch, agent. a ARRIVAL OF THE CELT. The schooner Celt, M'Konzie, left Auckland on the 12th ult., with general cargo. Arrived at Wangapoa on the 14th, where she took in about 80,000 feet timber, leaving for this port on the 20th. Next day, when about half way across the Ray of Plenty, encountered heavy easterly gale, which split the foresail and did other damage; Captain M'Kenzie boro np for Tauranga in consequence of this, where she arrived on the morning of the 23rd; left again with light variable weather; rounded East Capo at 2 p.m. on the 28th; Portland Island on the 29th at 9 a.m.,— entering the inner harbor at 4 the same evening. ARRIVAL OF THE SATELLITE. The cutter Satellite, Currie, master, arrived hero at 1 a.m. on the 30th ult, from Auckland via Cabbage Ray. She left the former port on the 12th ult., and arrived at Cabbage Bay same day._ Took in 25,000 feet timber, and left for Napier on the 24th. Experienced a very heavy gale from the south-east, which compelled her to bear up for Tryphena harbor for shelter. Sailed again on the 27th. Shortly after leaving the breeze freshened so much as to compel the master of the little vessel again to seek shelter—this time under Whale Island. 28th, weighed anchor, and left for Napier. Rounded the East Cape at 2 a.m. on the 29th ult., and made the anchorage here us above. ARRIVAL OF THE AHURIRI. The N.Z.S.N. Co.’s s.s. Ahuriri, Flowerday, left Poveriy Bay at 1 p.m. on the 30th ult., and arrived in the roadstead at XO o’clock the same night. The St. Hilda, Captain Kennedy, left Poverty Bay before the Ahuriri with 15 of the Hawke’s Bay Volunteers on board, and steamed for Te Wairoa. ARRIVAL OF THE TAWERA, The schooner Tawera, Kennedy, left Auckland on the 23 rd with general cargo. Called in at the Barrier on the 25th ult,, and left again the same day. Experienced easterly weather. Arrived at Poverty Bay on the 29th; landed 12 passengers and about 15 tons cargo. Left the same day. Oh the SOth called iu at Table Cape; and left again in the evening. Arrived at Kapier on the Ist August, Had light variable weather livju Table Cape.
ARRIVAL OF THE ST., HILDA, The Colonial Government screw steamer St. Kilda, Captain Kennedy, left the outer harbor at 11 p.m. on Saturday, 28th ult. Experienced fine ’weather to Wairoa, where she arrived at 4 a.m. on the 29th. Left again st 7 the same morning, but in consequence of the heavy sea running had to bear up for Mahia. Left that that place at 8 the same (Sunday) night; and arrived at Poverty Bay at 6 o!clock on the following morning. Having taken on board 1 corporal and 6 privates of the Hawke’s Bay Volunteers, steamed for Wairoa at half-past 11 the same (Monday) morning ; arrived at Wairoa at midnight on the 30th. Took on board 14 men belonging to the H.B.V. Left Wairoa at 2 p.m. on the 3lst ult., and arrived in tbo outer harbor at half-past 8 the same night. Cairo inside and hauled alongside the wharf at 11 o’clock yesterday morning. MISCELLANEOUS. The s.s. Star of the South steamed for Auckland yesterday morning, with a cargo of cattle and sheep, consigned to Mr Alfred Buckland. The s.s. Ahuriri steamed for the South at noon yesterday, with a small cargo. The Panza Co.’s s.s. Lord Ashley is duo h ere from the South this day, and will leave for Auckland at noon to morrow. The cutter Satellite, as will be seen by advertisement in our first page, is open for freight or charter. The cutter Whitby, bound for Opotiki, was under Whale Island with the Satellite on the 27th ult. The s.s. St. Kilda will, we understand, proceed to Wellington to-morrow (Friday) morning. The Joanna. —By a private letter received from Tauranga we learn tiiattbe new schooner Joanna, Captain Loverock, had arrived there from this port, and bad been taken up for the conveyance of troops to Opotiki. She was to sail on the 12th instant, and Captain Loverock expected to be in Mercury Bay about the end of last week, to load timber for Napier. The Joanna’s sailing qualities are highly spoken of. —New Zealand Herald, 25th July. The Siam. —The good ship Siam, Captain William Ashby, had all but completed her loding on the 25th May. She was to leave the docks on the 28th, taking her departure from Gravesend on the Ist Juno. She was in capital trim, being about two feet lighter than on the last voyage, so that she may be expected'to make a rapid passage. She brings some 60 passengers. The Siam will load from this port. Considerable difficulty was experienced in manning ships—seamen being out on the strike for wages; three pounds per month being demanded.—lbid. The Challenger. —The unarmoured screw corvette Challenger, 18 guns, 400 horse power, fitted out at Sheerness as the flag-ship of the future commodore on the Australian and New Zealand station, Captain R B. Maguire, arrived at Spithead yesterday en route to her destination.— Times, 26th May.
