Tallow.—-Prices have given way from £3 to-£4 per ton daring the past mouth, except for parcels bf prime candle tallow, to supply intercolonial orders; Shipping parcels are not much sought after, as the prices' which rules in London are much lower than our present market rates. ■ Mess Beef.—rA considerable trade has -been done by most of the; curera in consequence, of the .scarcity which is reported to exist in Eastern ports to which shipments have been'made, A large parcel has also been forwarded to England. Arrangements have been made fon-curingiineat on a large scale by a recently patented process, as one .surplus cattle will pay better in th is way than if boiled down, and especially as in the whole of the Eastern ports a good market will always be found. ■<> •• - ... • ; Coals.—Prices remain steady, at last month’s rates. Heavy. Shipments to, Manila. Javy, and Shanghai have been made from that colony during the past fortnight. , Breadstuffs. —A limited amount of business, chiefly in trade orders, has been transacted, prices have:.not given way. to any: perceptible extent, nor does, there appear any indications of a change , at present.-. The Filomena’s cargo goes into; stock, and that of the Ellen Southarfc is also likely' to remain here. The Omeo’s cargo is on Mel-; bourne account she has called here for orders. The Mary Miller was loading at. Tome when the Omeo sailed. The Berengaria, from San Fran-; cisco, is also expected here. The British Queen’s cargo has partly gone into consumption; the whole of her flour brought £l4 15s net, part of: the wheat rwas sold to arrive. Californian wheat has been in great request here: this season, and commands almost as good a price as Adelaide, which is .at present dull of sale, at, 7s to 7s 3d. Californian is quoted at 6s 6d to 7s-9d: Chilian, 6s to 6s 3d. Californian oats would bring from 6s to 6s 6d. - It must be remembered that it is subject to a package duty equal lb 6d per bnshel. A shipment of corn from California ex Hercules has been received. It goes to Melbourne; barley is not enquired for, - Rice.—Carolina out of stock. New Patna is scarce, and held for £3O. A email parcel of dressed Java has been sold by auction during the week, at £26 ss. American Goods.—The fall in the value of gold in New York enhances the the value of all American manufactures, and high rates will probably rule here for some-time to come. The arrival of the Centurion has replenished some of our sto -ks but there is still a scarcity of many articles. Dried apples are nob procurable. Californian salmon is scarce, and would bring 200 per cent, on invoice. Wire-bound brooms are scarce, and worth 30a. Collin’s medium axes are saleable at 85s to 86s; ditto heavy, 90s to 92s ; lobsters, 9s 6d to 10s 3d ; oysters, IBs ; axe-handles, 14a • pick-handles 16s ; kerosene oil, best brands, 5s 6d to ss9d; glassware, boots, and tacks, command a fair profit on invoice rates. The only parcel of American lumber in the market is that just received from New York, for which a considerable advance on previous sales is asked by the importers. Tobacco.—There is not much to report in the tobacco market. We have still large stocks of old Northern and importations which hang on hand, the consumption of which is suppressed by a more marketable commodity by oar own manufacturers. The first instalment of new Southern make, both in twist and tens, is to hand, and is favorably received by the trade. We quote Barrett at from 2s 9d to 3s in bond; new Southern 10’s are worth from Is 3d to la6d; Western negrohead and tens, from lOd to Is 2d. Superior samples aromatic, or golden leaf, in demand at from 2s to 2s 9d. In cigars there is nothing doing, although stocks of Manila have never been so light. Teas.—The tenor of advices from China is highly favorable to holders, and prices are consequently .firmer. The cargo of the Cedars, advertised for sale, by auction, has been withdrawn for the present.. Sugars.—Lowßrown and ration sorts have not experienced any improvement, fine counters and crystals are more inquired for. Sugar Company’s quotations are unaltered., ...... Oilmen’s Stores.—A considerable decline has been submitted to, and auction sales have been made at lower rates than have ruled for many months. . ■ , . . Dried Fruits.—Currants are dull of sale. A parcel placed at auction, showed a reduction of Jd per lb New Cape raisins have been placed at 6d to 7id, and muscatels at slightly lower figures. Liquors.—ln the present state of the market prices are almost nominal. A parcel of any magnitude could hardly be placed, and the only sales are small orders for consumption. Rum has slightly improved; some small purchases have been made at 3s 2d to 3s 4d, Whisky is unaltered, the stock is lower than has been known for years. Genevas are in fair trade demand at late rates Quotations for brandies are- unaltered. The Eldorado, from Charente, brought only a small portion of her cargo to this port.—Herald, 14th July. ADELAIDE. The South Australian Register, 4th July, reports as follows: — . Flour:; Prices remain without alteration, at £ls to £l6 per ton. Wheat:—There is still but little offering, and tho value is about 6s 9d to 6s lOd per bushel.' General merchandise : In the import market to-day business - continues very duU, and sales are very difficult to effect. An adjourned meeting of the creditors of.J. Brown, Wayraouth-street, took place this afternoon, when a highly respectable firm guaranteed 15s in the pound, at three, six, -nine and twelve months, which was unanimously accepted.
