Eaethquakes. —Two slight shocks were felt at Napier last night—one at eight, and the other at nine o’clock. The vibration in either case did not exceed seven seconds’ duration. Temperance Society. —We would draw attention to the fact that a public meeting will be held at Mr Haswell’s school-room, Teunyson-street, on Thursday evening nest, at eight o’clock, for the purpose of forming a “ Hawke’s Bay Temperance Society.” The Annexation Quesion, —In the House of Representatives on the 18th instant, Mr M Lean presented a petition from certain natives at Poverty Bay, praying that that district should be annexed to this Province. Discovery of Gold on the East Coast. —Tne New Zealand Herald contains the account of the discovery of gold at Kawa Kawa, on the East Coast, and urges the Auckland Government to see about it at once, for that Napier would be only too glad to be the first in the field.
