HORRIBLE TRAGEDY AT THE NORTH TAIERI (OTAGO.)
The following is from the Dunedin Evening Star, of the 26th ult.— , Information has been received by the police to the effect that a woman, at the North Taieri, whose name we are unable to learn, had cut the throats of her two children and herself. From tvhat we can glean, it appears that she was confined about six months since, and has ever since been out of her mind.' She' first cut throats of her children, placing their heads over a tub, into which she allowed the blood to flow. Shortly afterwards, her husband came home, and ‘ she opened the door for him, it having been previously locked. Upon the door being opened, she staggered into a, corner, and expired: the children were already dead. Information was immediately despatched to the commissioner of police by mounted constable Carter, and detective Thompson proceeded at once to the spot.
